LIIAR ANALYSIS OF EXISTING MAGAZINES: TOP OF THE POPS
LIIAR ANALYSIS OF EXISTING MAGAZINES: Top Of The Pops
Front Cover
The magazine uses the colours the main colours used on the front cover is bright pink and white, these colours are consistent throughout the front cover and are used to advertise other stories I products. It’s important to keep this house style running because people are more likely to trust a magazine with a house style than without as it looks more professional and themed and starts to really build up a good brand image. The masthead is in bright pink and is outlined with a thick white line which really makes it stand out to the audience, each magazine they publish uses the same sized text the same font and colours which works really well as it starts to build up an icon for the magazine. Most magazines do tend to use their masthead as their icon because to come up with a title it has to be catchy unique and stand out to an audience which is also what an icon requires, name also gets spread by word of mouth which makes the magazine and the icon more recognisable to the public. The colours used on the magazine are pink and white it looks as though they have taken the exact colours from the title and used them elsewhere which also helps build up a house style.
The main image is a medium close up the model is making eye contact with the camera this is done intentionally because the producer of the magazine has wanted the audience to create a relationship with the model through eye contact to persuade you to want to read her story and buy the magazine. The model has also been asked to pose in that way to match the house style, in this case they have asked the model to smile very cheerfully to reflect on his music which is pop. Pinks are usually associated with girly pop which is why the male model is surrounded by pink because himself and his music attract a girl audience. The model dominates most of the page which is also a very common convention of magazines. The main article is clearly shown that it associates with the main model on the page. It’s in a big circle shape and it looks as though it has been stamped on his chest, it is pink with big blocked white writing this really stands out to an audience. With it been stamped on his chest it suggests everything the article says comes from Justin Bieber’s heart himself either that or it can suggest reading this makes girls want to pull him closer to their heart because they really like his music and are a huge fan. If the story is from the heart it makes it more of a gossip story and a must read story it also pulls quotes from the story itself teasing the pop audience to want to go buy the product.
The price of the magazine is £2.35 this is reasonable because the people who are going to buy the magazine will be teens around 14+ and that is an affordable price out of their pocket money or minimum wage. Teenagers are not going to spend big amounts of money on magazines as they want spare money to do their own things on a weekend, however in society now it is almost certain that everyone knows what is happening in the media world so teens will spend minimum money on these magazines to find out the latest in the media world as that is what society has taught us. The magazine is also clearly targeted at girls it uses bright pinks advertises make-up products and used Justin Bieber as their model whom most boys detest.
The front cover has many teasing devices that are randomly posted all over the magazine. It doesn’t really have any banners or structure to it. Ii think it should as with stories been jotted anywhere it makes the page look crammed and over crowded for example they could of advertised the make-up tips in a banner at the top of the page. And advertise Selena Gomez at the bottom and the rest would look better on a contents page.
This magazine is quite unique in the market because most music magazines are aimed at boys and girls. This magazine however is aimed at girls and it gives them something just specifically for them making them feel better about themselves and want to buy it as they feel it has been made for them. It also features really girly boy bands and boys that are always in the press for their looks, it offers free posters of these boy bands and singers which makes them buy it generally to look at them, however they are satisfied with what they get to read about and look at and they get free make-up tips to make them feel better about their appearance.
This magazine gives off a friendly happy atmosphere it’s very girly and positive which is what keeps this specific target audience satisfied. The magazine has used bright pinks and crammed up the page to reflect on how crammed these celebrities lives are with fans and stories about them. However this is what the audience want they want to be crammed up with this information as that will make them feel as though they have the top gossip which is what these magazines do to people they make them feel as though they need this information in order for them to feel “cool” it is just what society and the media world has done to people.
The magazine is targeted at specifically girls aged 12-16 I think that once they hot the age of 16 this magazine starts to become abit childish and older teens want something more sophisticated not bright pink and girly boy bands and singers. You can tell its aimed at girls by the over load of girl colour which is pink.
Even though this is not my type of music or the Genre I have picked to aim my magazine on I think it is a good point to look at many different Genres in order to understand how the magazine world works and what typical features are expected from each genre for example rock is red and black and pop is bright colours.

LIIAR ANALYSIS OF EXISTING MAGAZINES: NME
LIIAR ANALYSIS OF EXISTING MAGAZINES: NME
Front Cover
L-
This magazines main colours used are yellow, white, red and black these colours are used to build up a house style and are consistently used on the whole of the front cover. The text refers to these colours and so do the banners and advertisements added in. The model is also wearing a black and red shirt this is done purposely to highlight the consistency of the colour use and house style. The colours used are associated with rock which describes the models genre of music and makes it appeal to a rock target audience. The house style works really well because it indicated the theme and genre of the magazine really well and the consistency of colour used makes it clear that NME is a well known and trusted magazine and the house style does run throughout the magazine. It is important to have a running house style as it looks professional and people learn to trust the magazine through recognisable colours and themes.
The masthead is in big blocked writing to stand out on the page it is also highlighted in white, highlighting to the audience that it is a big magazine. The models head blocks out the E in the masthead this suggests that the magazine is so big and so well-known that you don’t even need the whole title name to recognise what magazine it is. The name is short and easy to remember and recognise which is good for a magazine as the name starts t become the icon, everybody remembers and recognises it in the shop or wherever you see it advertised.
The main image is a medium close up the model is making eye contact with the camera this is done intentionally because the producer of the magazine has wanted the audience to create a relationship with the model through eye contact to persuade you to want to read her story and buy the magazine. The model has also been asked to pose in that way to match the house style, the colours used are associate with rock they have asked the model to pose in that way to give off a ‘rock chick’ attitude. By giving off this pose whilst making a relationship with the audience makes the audience want to know why she has so much attitude it makes them want to know more about her which is what attracts them to her story and makes them buy the magazine.
The main article relates to the model this Is clearly indicated. It is the biggest text on the page and features the models name again making it clear the story is aimed at her. There is also a teasing device used which is text taken from the story to tease the audience about what the article includes. This is done to make them want to buy the magazine. The text is the biggest on the page emphasising again that this is the biggest story of the magazine it is also done in white and red using the house style colours building up a positive recognisable brand for the public to trust. The text is slanted which indicates the models life is on a tilt and is not balanced it suggests she is going through a rocky stage of life and needs to get back on her feet and make her life more balanced. This is done very clever to give the audience a hint of what the story is about however not making it completely obvious to the audience so they get a teaser however not the whole story again this is all done in production to invite the audience in and make them purchase the product.
The price of the magazine is £2.00 this is reasonable because the people who are going to buy the magazine will be teens around 14+ and that is an affordable price out of their pocket money or minimum wage. Teenagers are not going to spend big amounts of money on magazines as they want spare money to do their own things on a weekend, however in society now it is almost certain that everyone knows what is happening in the media world so teens will spend minimum money on these magazines to find out the latest in the media world as that is what society has taught us.
The magazine also has teasing contents along the bottom and top of the page. These advertise other stories within the magazine showing what is offers and value for money. The banner is red to stand out and stars names are added along the bottom in white to highlight that this magazine includes the best stars that you have to know about, this might not be true however the magazine puts this message into our heads by using these teasing devices to persuade us into reading about these stars.
I-
This magazine is not technically unique in the market there are other magazines like NME however not to this quality this magazine offers a range of different stories and starts making the magazine target not just one specific audience many different audiences. There is not just one type of rock there are several and this magazine targets several not just one specific. You also get value for money the magazine offers several huge stars and stories which Is what teens want to see. To make it more unique they could maybe advertise more competitions or free gifts on the front cover to make the audience more drawn into buying it and something different from other rock magazines as hardly any offer these techniques.
I-
This magazine gives off a rock image, rock music gives an impression of attitude and it shows the purity of someone’s thoughts, rock singers sing from the heart however they are not afraid to sing how life can be unfair as well as fair. The magazine obviously wants to give a positive attitude towards the magazine but it depends if you like rock or not. If you don’t the magazine looks quite negative and aggressive but to people who understand rock the magazine is positive it gives a range of stories and sneak peeks of people’s new music and shows how the model wants to put her life back on a balanced note which is obviously positive.
A-
The magazine is targeted at teens around 14+ who are into rock music. This is made obvious by the attitudes of the middle and colours used that are associated with rock like red and black. I targeted 14+ because people younger don’t understand the meaning of the music and the attitudes can be to aggressive for them to learn. Also more people 14+ listen to this kind of music. I would say the magazine is for a mainstream audience.
R-
The representation of this magazine is attitude and rock. They want the music and magazine to be represented in a positive way towards their target audience. They have used the appropriate colours and poses and stories to attract them into the magazine to make continuous sales.
Contents page
For the contents page they have kept the house style running which really works with building up a band image they haven’t added any colour to interfere with the house style which is also a very professional thing to do. The background has also stayed white again keeping a simple running house style making it clear that the contents page belongs with the cover which will also make people trust the magazine more and sign up for continuous sales which has been advertised at the bottom. This also works as a tease device saying to the audience “save over £45” which teens will be interested in because they can save more money for their own purposes. It also works for the magazine as they will be making more continuous sales and building up a better fan base to be spread by word of mouth. Word of mouth id one of the best ways of advertising because people trust their friends the most and if they say it’s a good trustworthy magazine the more likely other people are to buy it.
The masthead is again used as an icon to the magazine it has been put on the contents page again to make it even more exaggerated that the contents page belongs to NME as a whole. It’s again helping build up a recognisable brand image and making the logo more trustworthy and seen to an audience. NME has been kept I n the same colour and font again making it a icon and next to the icon is “this week” which highlights this is done every week to create a better brand image.
A new dominant image has been added to the magazine and this time it advertises a different story which shows the audience there is not just one exclusive story in the magazine there is more to read. This time it advertises a story about a famous gig venue getting knocked down, the camera angle used in this image is a low angle which looks up in at the building giving off the impression that it is something all rock listeners respected and looked up to. It shows that it had a lot of importance to many rock bands lives and draws people into the story by making them want to read what is going to be the new famous place to play. The image also has a caption to clearly indicate to the audience where the story lies there is also underneath a brief of what the story is about which teases the audience into wanting to read the story to find out more. It also creates questions in our head like “where are gigs going to be held now” which bribes us into buying the magazine to read these important facts.
There are no thumbnail images on the contents page it is just crammed with information I think to make it more interesting it does need more thumbnails to advertise more stories and give off a positive attitude and make the audience feel as though they have their value for money, although there is plenty of information listing the bands featured and stories included people would rather see image than read through it all one buy one. The subtitles on the page allow the reader to decide and turn to the page they want to go to which is helpful to the audience as they can skip to what they want to read straight away.
The magazine also uses tease devices like the “U.K’s no 1” this attracts the audience into wanting to buy the magazine because they believe whilst the media says and they want to feel as though they have the best magazine even if it’s not the U.k’s number one we learn to believe the media which is how these devices attract us into spending our money on them. This arrow also forces the reader to turn the page and read on into the magazine.
The contents page is similar to other music magazines contents pages however some other magazines are better, this is because they use more of a range of images and less texts if this magazine did that I think it would be more successful. The list of band names looks good as there are so many however realistically not many people read them or want to because it takes to long and they would rather read articles and images. So therefore I think it creates a boring attitude to the magazine compared to the front cover it needs more attitude and rebellious to it in order for it to be more exciting. However I do think that they have kept a very good house style and they are creating a good brand image towards the magazine, and the band index can also help the audience find the band they want to read about and skip straight to the page which is a very unique thing to include in a contents page as not many include them.
The contents page does relate to the target audience they have used the right colours and have included the right band in order to interest the audience. They also have a good range of different stories and interesting titles which invites them into the magazine and can have a good positive reflection on them.
Article Page
The article page still holds the theme and house style of black, white and red. The background page is again white they do this to all the pages to keep the focus on the text clear and the images because some colour can affect the way you see an image for example pink behind Lily Allen will make the audience think she is a girly girl pop star which she is not and that will drag the theme from the genre been rock. The title is also the same font as it was in the font cover clearly indicating this is the exclusive story that hypes up the audience.
The article opens with a drop title which is a convention of all magazines they do this to emphasis the start of the story and to exaggerate the importance of the magazine. There are words that have been highlighted in red again to emphasis the continuous if the house style, they are classed as important words as they are names “Lily Allen” in one important name as she is the star. The other name highlighted in red is the tag line which is the person that wrote and published the article.
The title is a pull from the article which shows Lily Allen’s attitude and expresses her feelings for life. The fact it is taken from the article also hypes up the audience it makes them more excitited for the story and makes them believe this is pure Lily Allen coming straight from her mouth.
The main image on the page is the same as the front cover Lily Allen dominates the whole of the left hand page leaving the right for the article, to improve this I would of added a different image to the article make people see different views of Lily Allen at different stages of her life this would relate to the story and make it more interesting for an audience.
The article page could be improved in many ways a better layout is needed and more image the text of the article needs to be bigger and more visible. The article page in my opinion is quite boring and won’t really have an effect on the audience which is what it needs. The exclusive article is meant to bring a positive attitude to the target audience and make them feel satisfied with what they have bought this article page gives off nothing it is an interesting story but it needs more to satisfy an audience. It needs thumbnail images quotes from the article splashed on the page. It gives off a bad representation compared to the front cover it has no spark to it. However the text and image does apply to it’s target audience and does have a positive effect in that way however it needs a lot to be improved which I will take into mind when producing my magazine.

LIIAR ANALYSIS ARTICLE PAGE
ARTICLE
L-
The Article will use the same colours and theme as the front cover this is so that it will start to build up a memorable house style it is important to keep the house style running throughout the magazine to make it look professional and to make the consistent theme recognisable to the audience and unique to its own magazine. It’s important I don’t use colours that other music magazines use as then it will look as though the magazine is a copy of a more famous brand. This will make the magazine lose popularity and be more unlikely to be sold as it will look ‘cheap’. To keep the consistency of the house style running on the contents page I will make sure that any text used matches the colours and that the icon is features on the page again building up a recognisable and positive representation. Any borders on images will be the one of the 3 colours I chose to relate back to the house style. Also the background colour of the oage will stay the same 3 colours because it is so important that it looks professional and that everything matches and creates a house style as that is what make the audience trust and willing to buy the magazine as it is part of something it’s big and professional so they take more trust to it meaning more purchase.
The masthead will most probably be featured on the article. Page as I want to use it as an icon for people to see and recognise that it’s a well-known company. Using the icon and repeating using it will make it stick more to a publics head and they will be able to recognise it been advertised and be able to trust the icon making audience more likely to make a repeat purchase. The article page will also feature a head line at the top of the page this is to summarise the story in a few words and give it a title to advertise the story everywhere else in the magazine the title on the article page will use the same text as the main title again to create the consistency of a running house style and to gain bigger trust. It will also look really effective and professional and stand out to an audience by using the much brighter colour of the 3 to indicate it’s big and important the most exclusive article.
I want to use a few thumbnail images in my article to show the band in many different occasions and different places as they don’t just want to see the band in one image. The thumbnail images will make the story look more interesting and keep the audience entertained as they won’t just want to read lots of text. I also want to use an image that’s not as small as a thumbnail however not as big as a dominant image I think this will be effective towards an audience as again they get to see the band in another location making them look ‘big’ and a must be seen kind of thing. Using different images will also help the audience interact and make relations with the band which will persuade them into reading more of the story and even go see the band in concert.
I want the dominant image on the article page to be of all the band or maybe just the lead member from waist upwards holding their new album. This would be classed as a mid-shot however I want the band to look directly into the camera and make eye contact. By making eye contact with the audience the band will start to create a relationship making the audience feel as though the band has invited them to talk about their personal lives.
I-
The article page will differentiate from others because the exclusive articles will feature personal band life and will take a sneak peak of things that haven’t even been released to the public world yet. The Article page will make the audience feel more involved unlike any other magazine and I will make sure I read plenty to make sure I do this to satisfy customer needs. The article will also offer a change to win 2 free tickets to the next live concert these techniques added is what draws the audience into buying the magazine classed as competitions and free gifts.
I-
The article page will have a positive atmosphere to the target audience as they will feel satisfied with what they gain from it e.g- a chance to win two free tickets. The article page will offer many different exclusive points that have never been heard before and pictures of the ban in concert which will make them more likely to sign up to the completion and also hype them up to buy the next issue for a chance to win something else .I want the magazine to satisfy customer needs and wants and make them feel happy with their product and what to buy the next issue.
A-
My target audience is both male and female over the age of 15+ when I decide upon the genre of the music the target audience will become easier defined however I think that the genre of the magazine is most likely to be alternative rock music or pop/r&b music as I feel that they are the most popular areas of interest and will be easier to target as there are more popular bands in those criteria’s. However I think that I will probably use alternative rock as that is what I listen to and I feel that I know more about that genre than anything else so therefor I will be able to create that genre better than anything else.
R-
I want my magazine article page to be represented in a positive way I want people to feel satisfied with the magazine and feel as though they got their value for money. I want them to have this feeling towards the magazine as then it will get good publicity and be spread by word of mouth which is the most popular way to get teens to buy a magazine as if they here it’s good from their friends they will trust their opinion and purchase the magazine. I hope that the article page will reflect this. I want the article page to appeal to the target audience and be completely unique from anything else they have ever read in a article page, I want them to feel satisfied with the information provided and feel as though they know more about the band from my magazine than any other already published. I want the magazine to be represented as high quality and I want the audience to make sure they get better value for money than anything else on the shelves.
LIIAR ANALYSIS CONTENTS PAGE

There will be thumbnail pictures on the contents page to advertise other stories either on the left or the right of the page, I would put them there because then they are well structured alongside of the contents making them understandable and relate to the stories. It will also create a well clear structures layout to an audience. The thumbnail images will also have a caption underneath to clearly state to the audience where the stories that belong to image are for example “page 7”.
As for the dominant image of the contents page I think I will use another image of the main band I use on the front cover. This will probably lay on the bottom right and side of the page. I think this will work because it’s advertising the exclusive story making the audience feel more involved and persuading them further into wanting to read the exclusive story. I want to use a long shot in the contents page because I feel that the whole band should be seen together maybe advertising there new C.D together and by using a long shot I will be involving the whole band making them look united and something they are going through together which will invite the audience in by giving the impression they are saying “be a part of us”. I also think that using a different range of shots and photos of the main band will keep the audience entertained by having different things to look at.
I-
The contents page will differentiate to other magazine contents pages because it will get the audience feeling more involved by different shots of bands and featuring many different storylines. The contents page will include tease devices like a banner advertising free gifts or vouchers which will again make the audience feel involved and part of the magazine. They will also feel satisfied with the contents page as they are gaining something extra out of there small amount of money they spend on the magazine.
I-
The contents page will have a positive atmosphere to the target audience as they will feel satisfied with what they gain from it e.g- free vouchers. The magazine contents will advertise a wide range of different stories and many thumbnail images to hype the audience up for what is featured inside the magazine. I want the magazine to satisfy customer needs and wants and make them feel happy with their product and what to buy the next issue.

LIIAR ANALYSIS: FRONT COVER
Front Cover
L-
The front cover of my magazine is going to have to have a running house style, house style is important to any magazine this is because it means the magazine has a running consistency of colour, and that means that you can tell that it all belongs to the same company or in this case magazine. Using a certain colour theme creates house style and by creating it people can recognise the brand more and begin to trust the magazine more as it doesn’t change and looks professional. My magazine will have a running house style because I want it to look professional and trustworthy to the public so that people will make a relationship with the product and make it a continuous product to buy. The house style will run throughout the magazine and it will all relate to each other and the logo, it is important that the house style relates to the logo because it makes you know that the pages belong to the brand which makes the brand and logo more noticeable to the public. I have not chosen the colours for my magazine yet but when I do I want at the most three colours however I like the idea of using two, the colours will be bright so that they are noticeable to an audience and make the magazine enthusiastic to the target audience. Also when thinking about using colour you have to think of what genre of music you are going to feature as the colours will have to match up with that for example red and black is usually associated with rock or punk sometimes even alternative. Whereas bright pink and blue and other bright colours are associated with pop.
The dominant image on the page will be the model, or models depending on what I want to feature on my magazine the lead person of a band or the band as a whole. This will also reflect and what kind of shot I want of the model/s. If I use one model it will probably be a medium close up of waist upwards and she will hold some kind of prop that relates to the music this could be a microphone or guitar etc. I would use a medium close up because I think they create a better relationship with the audience than a long shot and a close up would be too much detail and won’t be able to feature the props. If I use the whole band I may use a medium close up of the main band leader and the rest of the ban in a long shot behind it is hard to decide in this moment of time however ideas will progress as the project goes on. I do know however that the image will be the most dominant on the page and the band or leader used will relate to the main story.
The title will be short and snappy so that it is memorable, and sticks to the public’s mind, it will be main on the page because I want people to be able to see it and remember the name so they buy it in the future. The title will obviously be related to music or maybe initials that stand for something there are many ways in which to present the title, you could even make the title the logo or icon depending on how creative you are with it.
The thumbnail images will be along the left hand side structured in whatever way matches the genre of music if its rock or alternative they will look good spread around in random places to match the buyer’s personality. If it’s pop they will be big and stood out in a neat order which matches everybody’s personality as a majority of people listen to more pop than anything else.
The price of the magazine will be around £2.00 and will be a monthly issue the magazine has to be fairly cheap as the target audience are around 15+ which makes it affordable a month for them. As many people that age are still in education or have a low paid job and can’t afford pricey magazines. People also like to get value for their money which they will in this magazine.
I-
My magazine will be different to other publishers magazines as it will be unique by providing value for money there will be plenty of different stories and pages for people to look at and read, it will feature not just one band many different ones targeting a wider audience. The quality of the magazine will be to a much higher quality including top glossy paper which will not crease or bend or be ruined when teens put them in their bags.
I-
I want the magazine to have a positive attitude upon its target audience obviously. I want them to also feel satisfied with the magazine I want them to feel as though they are getting the best quality and their value for money. I want the audience to feel as though they are proud to buy the magazine and sign up to become a continuous buyer.
A-
My target audience is both male and female over the age of 15+ when I decide upon the genre of the music the target audience will become easier defined however I think that the genre of the magazine is most likely to be alternative rock music or pop/r&b music as I feel that they are the most popular areas of interest and will be easier to target as there are more popular bands in those criteria’s.

Evaluation
My masthead is just “student magazine” I did this because it’s simple easy to read and the audience know exactly who the magazine is targeted at, even though I could of come up with something fun and creative but I wanted the students to feel as though they was a part of adult life and was treated and respected as adults not just “kids” and I think doing this was a good way of showing it.
My main image is a medium close up meaning from the shoulders up, I chose this shot because I think it creates more of a relationship with the audience and using the shot also uses direct focus which means looking straight at the camera. This creates a relationship because her looking at the people makes the audience feel a part of her and want to know her story, it makes the audience want to buy the magazine to become a part of Wyke, it also creates some trust with the magazine as we begin to trust the girl on the front cover through eye contact. Which will attract more sales to the magazine and make it become bigger and producing more profit.
I used the green and purple that are on the Wyke website I did this because I wanted to create a theme and those colours are Wyke’s theme and people can begin to trust the college by the use of colours which makes them trust the magazine and become a continuous buyer. However from my audience feedback people made comments like the colours weren’t bright enough so if I was to do the magazine I would make them a bit brighter to satisfy them however try and keep them as close as the green and purple as the website as possible because I don’t want the colours of the website to look so different to the magazine because that wouldn’t look professional and everything Wyke produces should relate to one another to build up a good brand and image. I did have a house style and most people in the audience feedback responded to that and said it ran throughout the magazine and worked well, I was really happy with this feedback because that is what I aimed for most is carrying a strong house style throughout the magazine, you need to have a good house style in order for the magazine to become more successful people trust magazines that have a strong house style because it’s shown as professional and it shows that the magazine is part of something and it belongs to something big which makes the audience more likely to carry on purchasing the product. The house style can also help the magazine to become something big as the colours used will start to be recognised as the brand grows more, with the colours becoming more recognisable it makes the magazine bigger and also makes more students attracted to Wyke as their future college. The house style also runs onto the contents page along with the Wyke college logo again to make it look more successful and professional and showing it belongs to Wyke.
The front cover featured many thumbnail images of different stories that were inside the magazine one I did was a “top ten art project” where student can find out if they made the top ten and will receive a prize for number 1. I used images to demonstrate art work which I thought would hype the audience and make them purchase the magazine to find out if they are a winner. I also put other images on of last year south Africa students I did this to interest the people who are looking into south Africa and want to find out more about it in a personal opinion way. It also appeals to other students who would just like to read about life changing experiences. I used several thumbnails in my contents page and labeled them with page numbers to find out where the story lies I thought this was a good idea as it shows other students involved in the magazine to it makes them more tempted to buy it and see how they can be involved and be a part of wyke it also looks good for people who are looking to enrol as they can see it’s a happy friendly environment and all sorts of different things can be achieved here. I was exceptionally happy with the audience feedback they all commented that there was plenty to read about for any category of people so I was pleased that I managed to achieve that.
The price of the magazine is £2.00 this is because the magazine is a monthly only issue and the magazine is printed on top glossy paper because it belongs to the college and therefore needs to be high standard to reflect on the college and how supreme it is and to give off that its for high standard people. Even though £2.00 seems like a lot of money its not for the value and how much they get in the magazine £2.00 is not a lot out of their monthly income they could even pay in advance for a year at the beginning of September.
The only teasing device along the bottom of the page is “HALLOWEEN SPECIAL” inside I have featured a Halloween article that gives details about a party inside the text is in bright green this is so you can tell it’s not like the other articles this one has to be seen. Bright green is also associated with Halloween, inside the contents page there is also a teaser of where the part will be held I did this to excite the audience and make them feel as though they can’t miss out on this Halloween special and make them feel as though they have to be there. The teaser makes the students want to read more and purchase the magazine.
The main article is directly across the main picture this is so the audience can tell exactly what the story is about and directly who it is about sometimes in media we refer to the main article as the spash to make my splash more interested and eager for people to read I put “how wyke changed my life” people like to know about other peoples life and how they have been affected in some way happy or sad it’s just what people are like nowadays its just society and what the world has come to. However it works and people like to know about other people and it what helps sell the magazine.
My magazine it u unique because it is open to the public not just Wyke students people who are looking into choosing Wyke as their next education place can read it and see what Wyke offers not many other magazines do this but it’s a way to sell more copies and make bigger profits and help Wyke with enrolling new students and helping them make the correct choice.
My magazine gives off a friendly atmosphere towards the college which is what I intended. Many people in the audience feedback said how the magazine made wyke look like a nice friendly environment and a good place to be this is what I wanted from the magazine I wanted it to appeal to many students and them to feel involved with wyke. I did this by making the model use eye contact and friendly bright colours to create a deeper relationship between the two. I also used anchorage like “wyke sport needs you” I did this because it makes the audience feel as though they are part of the magazine and making them feel they are been spoke to which again helps develop a relationship between them both.
Overall I think if the magazine was to be published then it would make profits, my audience feedback was very positive there was some negative points that if I were to do the magazine again I would change for example making the price bigger and adding a barcode which I forgot to include making it look unprofessional I would also make the text on the contents page the same as the front cover because that can also look abit unprofessional when somebody looks at it but overall I think it has ended up quite successful given the period of time.

Task 12: Promoting Launch
To promote the magazine I would upload clips of what the magazine features on YouTube, this way anyone can access the clip people who are looking at Wyke for option students currently at Wyke. I think this would work well because students 16+ use YouTube constantly by advertising the magazine on their it would be more likely to get noticed than a newsletter from the college that people put in their bags and never read, also a method like this would be using Wyke’s Facebook page again more people will notice it on there as it targets them more by using the social networking they will feel more of a part of the magazine, which helps build a relationship for continuous sales. Using these methods are free which helps making profits as no money would be spent on Marketing.
Another thought I had in mind was paying to have a huge advertisement on the Wyke website, I can assure students will all see this as it’s the homepage to the internet and that’s how you log on to email and Moodle therefore its sure to get noticed and people may stop to read it.

Publishing
I want my magazine to be a monthly issue so that the audience don’t get bored of reading the same things throughout the week, also its something for people to look forward to and makes £3.00 a month easy to spare for the magazine and still have money left to spare. Also i want it to be monthly so that they get the money's worth out of the magazine, i want the magazine to feature everything the college can think of so it will be a fairly long magazine.
Target Audience
Target Audience
Demographic side to target audience- I want my magazine to be targeted at 16+ this is because I want people who are thinking of enrolling at the college to read it current students and teachers to be interested. To do this I need sophisticated yet exciting ideas to keep my target audience happy.
Psychographics- I want my magazine to appeal to people who are interested in enrolling in the college to grab their attention I need to include exciting events that happen in the college and current students opinions of the college and their achievements this will persuade them to join the college. I also want it to appeal to current students and teachers to do this I need to include important and exciting events that are happening in the college this will makes students read it for diary dates and upcoming events they want to read about and it will give teachers a chance to see students opinions and see what else is happening in the college without leaving the classroom.
LIIAR Analysis of current magazines.
With his magazine they have began to create house style you can see they have thought about using black and white as the continuous colours to create a trustworthy brand. However you can see in the contents page they have used green as the contents box this looks unprofessional if they wanted to use black, white and green they should of added it in on the front cover and blended it in with the logo to make everything come together and look in order and professional. Even though the green has spoilt the house style you can still see they have tried using black and white and sticking to it by using black writing and borders on the contents page and leaving the contents page white. The logo is white so you can tell they have put in some thought about black and white however they could of
developed on this and made the cover look more exciting and lively as the basic theme just reflects on the college making it look simple and boring.
The dominant image on the front cover is basic; it looks like they have chosen any photo from random and not thought about positioning. The students have our back to us so we are not creating a relationship with the students which make it seem like a untrustworthy magazine, it looks like the students don’t want to be represented as part of the college giving us a sense that it is not an enthusiastic place to be.
There are no thumbnail images this makes the magazine look dull and boring, which reflects on the college it suggests that not much has happened throughout the college which does not persuade the audience. There are also no competition or free gifts.
The main article is featured on the page however it is not very readable, It is in very small basic text on top of the main image so we do know that it relates to the image and is the main article however it could have been presented in a better way and could have had a more creative title than “media students in berlin”.
They have obviously produced the magazine for college purpose however I don’t think it stands out from any other magazine it needs to make itself look more presentable and unique to target more of an audience against other publishers.
This magazine gives off a negative message about the college it makes it look dull and boring and the students don’t look enthusiastic which means they are not enjoying themselves which gives off a bad atmosphere to the college and magazine. You can see on the contents page they have tried to liven it up to the audience by choosing bright green but it hasn’t worked it makes the contents page look like it relates to a different magazine. It has tried to liven the message up with the images of different activities throughout the college however they haven’t thought again about presentation they could of thought of a better layout.
The target audience I think is 16-19 students in the college and students who are looking to enrol at the college this is because the activities shown are what’s happened in the college which persuades people to join as they see the happiness in other students faces however also aimed at current students as it tells you what is going to happen.
The front cover gives off a good atmosphere it has used bright colours like blue and white which stand out well against each other you can tell they have used the colours slightly on the contents page however by adding pinks and oranges they have spoilt the idea of having a consistent running house style needed to keep it more simple to tell it’s a part of each other.
They have a really big noticeable title it stands out and they have shortened GRIMSBY COLLEGE to gx magazine that works well with the house style because it makes the magazine sound more “cool” and down to earth with students also blue represents something been cold or cool. “The word on the street” is something good to use it reflects on the audience making them feel this place is well known and you should know about it, it also carries on through to the contents page positioned in the same place this makes the phrase stand out as an icon on reorganisation like a unique figure which sticks in our heads and represents the college.
Main image is two people which have been edited to make look like cartoon figure people, again works well as it makes the college look like they have a good use of editing skills which makes it look more advance to people, which makes the college look like its for people who want to achieve this standard.
There are no thumbnails on the cover these could have been added to improve the presentation instead it just has anchorage which is really hard to read and it doesn’t stand out as much as it needs to. There are however thumbnails on the contents page but I don’t think they are to relevant to the actual stories so that is an area that needs to be improves as it makes the magazine look unprofessional and unorganised.
The magazine gives of a “cool” atmosphere it looks like somebody has designed it to appeal to teenagers yet not thought it through enough. It looks to childish and the contents page has too much going on even though it appeals to teens they haven’t thought about the sophisticated and professional side of a college magazine.
